The Fairy Wrens moved into bed 4, which has 2 trellises about 90cm apart. I discovered this when I was tying and tagging errant vines, there were a lot! Not wanting to disturb the nest and its occupants, I made the executive decision to not go down the row, but to tag the vines only on the outside. By the time the harvest was on, the little wrens had fledged.
Any vine that could not be identified by its particular tag was put into the 'Fairy Wren' mix. The upside of having the wrens around (apart from their chatter keeping me company) was the fact, that the caterpillar invasion was kept to a minimum. There was some damage, but not like previous years when the wrens weren't here. I am so grateful that I don't spray, and get to watch these little birds go about their busy days. I also get scolded if I move too fast! Examples of a few of the varieties.
