Nigella 'Transformer' has the trifecta. It is an annual plant with fine, ferny foliage with long wiry stems, atop which architecturally interesting blooms of yellow and green showcase. Once the flowers fade, beautiful green 'pleated' pods remain. These pods are a beautiful addition to a bouquet and can also be dried and their straw coloured pods used in dried flower arrangements. The seeds remind me of little flying saucers, so there's definitely no mix-up between them and their cousins, Nigella damascena.
